I have long extolled the untapped potential of YouTube for writers. This is a platform that only a few authors use well and I believe those who come along with an original and engaging idea for regular video content that builds a loyal following will fly.
So, in the interests of practising what I preach, I’m thrilled to be launching a new YouTube programme in January with my lovely friend and fellow writer, Em Norry.
Em and I met at a retreat at Tŷ Newydd Writing Centre in 2019 and discovered a shared tendency to get overexcited about the things we love. Rather than worry about not being cool, we’ve decided to embrace this and make it the focus of our programmes.
Getting Carried Away is a celebration of enthusiasm for the popular - or not so popular - culture in our lives, from the highbrow to the very lowbrow, from the formative childhood book to the film that offers a new perspective on the world. Each of our guests will make three choices of the books, TV and films that mean the most to them and we’ll chat about why - this is the place to leave your cool at the door, geek out and get carried away.
This is one of those projects that’s equally exciting and terrifying - the programmes will be broadcast live and anything might happen, particularly in the early days!
